The Minsk authorities demanded that retail chains remove goods from the countries that imposed sanctions against Belarus from the "best shelves". This was announced by the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev, reports "Belarus Today".
“A number of countries have imposed sanctions against us – Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland – and their goods (sweets, muffins, teas, cookies) are on the best shelves in stores! At the same time, we also need to look for domestic ones, ”Kukharev said.
In this regard, the authorities "toughly put the question before the networks", and if the situation does not change, measures will be taken, he said. At the same time, according to the HEAD of the Minsk City Executive Committee, "such a decision should be made at the level of the whole country."
The authorities of Belarus have been planning to reduce the share of imported goods in the domestic market for several years. In particular, the Doctrine of the National Food Security of the Republic of Belarus until 2030 assumed a decrease in the share of imported food products in the volume of sales in the domestic market to 15% by 2020 (actually amounted to 22.9%) and to 14% by 2030.
In order to buy more Belarusian products in the republic, in February the board of the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of Belarus recommended that stores place local goods in prominent and accessible places, as well as mark such places with a special sign or the inscription “Made in the Republic of Belarus”.
