The European Union will not impose sanctions that will affect Russia's oil or gas sector. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after the summit of EU leaders in France, reports REUTERS.
“The most important issue for us has been resolved in a favorable way: there will be no sanctions that would relate to gas or oil , so energy supplies to Hungary are safe in the near future,” Orban said.
Before the EU summit, Orban said that sanctions against oil and gas companies from RUSSIA would be "an unbearable burden" for the country, so supporting such measures was "out of the question," the Hirado news portal reported. According to him, Hungary would be "disproportionately" burdened by other countries with these sanctions, since 85% of all gas consumed in the country comes from Russia, 85% of Hungarian households run on Russian gas, and car fuel is produced from oil, 64% of which is also comes from Russia.
Orban condemned Russia's military special operation in Ukraine Politics
The fact that sanctions against Russia should not include a ban on the supply of oil and gas, Orban also spoke at a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, which took place on March 9. According to him, Budapest condemns Russia's actions, but is not ready to risk the well-being of its citizens, despite the events in Ukraine.
