Norway has joined part of the sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union. We are talking about three packages of restrictive measures approved by the EU before March 9, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Today, the most extensive package of sanctions ever imposed by Norway has been incorporated into Norwegian law by the government. The sanctions are a response to Russia's illegal attack on Ukraine, as well as an expression of Norway's solidarity with the Ukrainian people," said Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.
She explained that the fourth package of restrictive measures, introduced by the EU on March 15, is now under consideration by the Norwegian authorities. Norway did not include in the sanctions package a ban on RT broadcasts and the operation of the Sputnik agency, since these measures raise "fundamental questions" that take time to assess. Earlier, RT broadcasting and Sputnik were banned in the EU.
