Minister Guy Parmelin said it was difficult to assess the effectiveness of the sanctions, but noted thatthat their main goal - ending the conflict in Ukraine - has not yet been achieved

The sanctions imposed by Western countries against RUSSIA because of the special operation in Ukraine have not yet reached their goal, Guy Parmelin, HEAD of the Swiss Ministry of Economy, Education and Science, recalled in an interview with Blick.

Responding to the publication's question about whether the EU should tighten sanctions against the energy sector of the Russian economy, the minister said that the "real question" is the degree of effectiveness of the already imposed restrictions. In this particular case, if the goal of the sanctions is to end the Russian operation in Ukraine as soon as possible, "I want to note that this goal has not been achieved so far," Parmelin said.

The effectiveness of sanctions, he said, largely depends on how they are implemented, as well as on other "political, diplomatic and legal means" used. Sanctions , which received wide support from the world community, will be more effective than those adopted by individual states, the Swiss politician added.

In response to a journalist's request to evaluate the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia, Parmelin said that it is difficult to answer such a question. “If Russia sells less oil to the West, but sells some of that volume to other countries at higher prices, the result for Moscow is the same,” he said.

Polish Foreign Ministry announced the preparation of the seventh package of EU sanctions against Russia Politics

Western countries began to impose sanctions against Russia after the recognition of the DPR and LPR and the start of a military operation in Ukraine. Switzerland has taken measures similar to the first five EU sanctions packages.

On June 3, the EU approved the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions. It included, in particular, a gradual refusal to import Russian oil and some oil products by sea.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov then said that Moscow would not have "no budget losses" as a result of a partial embargo, "considering the price level that has been established as a result of Western policy." “On the contrary, this year we will significantly increase the profits received from the EXPORT of our energy resources,” he said, adding that Russia is already increasing supplies to alternative European markets.
