RUSSIA is imposing retaliatory personal sanctions against Canadian high-ranking officials, law enforcement officers, experts, journalists, entrepreneurs and others. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the website.
The ministry believes that the list includes, among other things, “activists of numerous pro-Banderist structures and organizations directly serving the Russophobic course of the regime,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In particular, the sanctions list includes Canadian Minister of Agriculture Marie-Claude Bibeau, President of the largest Canadian airline Air CANADA Michael Russo, HEAD of the Canadian Electoral Commission Stefan Perrault, Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer and his deputy Howard Chau, First Vice President of the Ukrainian-Canadian fund them. Earlier in the day, Canada imposed restrictive measures against 33 current or former high-ranking Russian officials and six organizations involved in alleged "gross and systematic violations of human rights" against Russian citizens who spoke out against the introduction of troops into Ukraine and "anti-democratic policies."
Canada, after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014, imposed sanctions against more than 2.1 thousand individuals and companies. After the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, restrictive measures were introduced against 1.5 thousand people and legal entities from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that Western countries are showing "sanctions obsession." He called the restrictions imposed insane and thoughtless.
