RUSSIA has never used the issue of energy supplies or gas transit as a weapon and does not intend to do so in the future. This was stated at a briefing by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“We never had intentions not to supply gas to Ukraine, through Ukraine. This issue is purely commercial in nature, it is the prerogative of the relevant business entities, ”she said (quoted by RIA Novosti). Zakharova added that Moscow is in favor of depoliticizing cooperation in the energy sector.

The day before, the United States and Germany issued a joint statement on the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which allows Russia to complete the construction of the pipeline without additional sanctions against project participants.
