Russian economic operators are already suffering losses due to Lithuania's "illegal" restrictions, Zakharova said. She promised that Moscow would not "wait indefinitely" and would respond,

If the situation with transit to Kaliningrad is not resolved in the coming days, Moscow will take “tough measures” against Lithuania and the European Union, said Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to her, Moscow continues the dialogue with the European Commission and Vilnius, and they assured "that the issue should be resolved in the near future."

However, Russian economic operators are already suffering losses due to "illegal" restrictions that Lithuania has introduced "unilaterally," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

“We will not wait indefinitely. We warn once again that if the situation does not stabilize in the coming days, then RUSSIA will take tough measures against Lithuania and the European Union, the preparation of which has already been completed,” Zakharova said, adding that “the solution of the problem has been too long.”

Lithuania rejected the idea of "green corridors" for transit to Kaliningrad Politics

After the entry into force of the new EU sanctions, Lithuanian Railways on June 17 was banned from transporting goods that fell under restrictions to and from the Kaliningrad region. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis pointed out that the decision was made after consultations with the European Commission. EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer stressed that the transit of non-sanctioned goods "works normally." The HEAD of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in turn, noted that Vilnius was guided by the measures taken by Brussels, and there was no talk of a blockade of the region.

However, the Kremlin called the decision of the Lithuanian side illegal, and the Foreign Ministry promised to give Vilnius a "practical" rather than diplomatic response. In early July, the authorities of the Kaliningrad region reported that they had handed over to the Russian government a draft of retaliatory measures, without specifying what they were. The head of the region, Anton Alikhanov, noted at the same time that he considers the introduction of measures premature, and the issue of transit can be resolved in other ways.

In particular, Alikhanov proposed to negotiate with the European Union on the creation of a corridor through which it would be possible to proceed to the region without entering the territory of Lithuania. This can be done only with the consent of Vilnius, he stressed. Advisor to the President of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirite has already stated that the country will not establish "green corridors" for the transit of goods through its territory to Kaliningrad.
