The sphere of diplomacy in the world is degrading, diplomatic efforts do not achieve results, because RUSSIA is not heard, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with Al Jazeera TV channel.

The deputy HEAD of the Security Council recalled Russia's attempts to agree on the topics of Ukraine and relations with NATO, on guarantees of its security, but "nothing came of it." Medvedev believes that diplomacy is now witnessing a "crisis of the genre" because it "begins where and when the parties are ready to listen to each other."

“No one hears us. The Americans do not hear, the Europeans do not hear - they stick to their line. In this case, diplomatic efforts die. And another development of events begins: in this case, decisions are made, similar to those made by the president of our country on February 24, to conduct a special military operation, ”said Medvedev (quoted by TASS).

Nevertheless, the deputy chairman of the Security Council added, “every country has the right to its own position,” so it cannot be said that diplomatic efforts are a thing of the past.

In mid-December, the Foreign Ministry submitted to NATO a draft treaty on security guarantees. Among the demands of Moscow was the non-expansion of the alliance to the east, including at the expense of the former republics of the USSR, in particular Ukraine and Georgia. Later, in January, the parties held several rounds of negotiations on security guarantees, but without success.

In NATO, many of the proposals formulated by the Russian side were considered “unacceptable or unrealistic”, but in response they identified a number of issues on which “we can work”. “The question is whether this is really what the Russians want,” an AFP source said.

When announcing the start of a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia had been trying for 30 years to negotiate with NATO "on the principles of equal and indivisible security in Europe", but these attempts did not lead to any result, and the previous agreements actually stopped working. “Persuasion and requests do not help. Everything that does not suit the hegemon, those in power, is declared archaic, obsolete, unnecessary. And vice versa - everything that seems beneficial to them is presented as the ultimate truth, pushed through at any cost, boorishly, by all means. Those who disagree are broken over the knee,” he said.
