Statements from the United States that Russia will "pay the price" lead to a dead end from which there is no way out. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, wrote about this in an article for RIA Novosti.

“The rhetoric of the simple 'Russia will pay the price' rhetoric, while sounding very American, leads straight to a dead end. There is no way out of this tunnel. This mantra will not bring enlightenment to anyone,” Medvedev wrote.

According to Medvedev, the tactics of the new US administration is to support dialogue on the one hand, but at the same time increase pressure. He attributed this to the fulfillment of campaign promises by the Democratic Party and the lack of unity in the Joe Biden team.

Medvedev believes that modern relations between Russia and the United States are at the same level as during the Cold War.
