The EU clarified previously imposed sanctions: Russians are prohibited from importing hygiene products, personal smartphones and cars. The Federation Council offered a mirror answer. Medvedev did not consider this option to work and called for the suspension of diplomatic relations

The EU’s decision to ban the import of personal cars, smartphones and shampoos is a “spit in the face” of every Russian; the answer is to suspend diplomatic relations with Brussels, Dmitry Medvedev, HEAD of the Russian Security Council , wrote in TELEGRAM .

According to him, the European Union, having confirmed the ban on the entry of Russians into the EU with their equipment and personal hygiene items, “without further ado” told the Russians that for it they are “second-class people, like Sharikovs.” And this decision is clearly not “punishment for the “criminal aggressive regime in the Kremlin,” but an action against ordinary citizens, Medvedev noted.

At the same time, introducing retaliatory restrictions against EU citizens is definitely not an option, he continued. “We are not racists, <...> and those who come to us usually love and appreciate RUSSIA,” wrote the deputy head of the Security Council.

In his opinion, the best option would be “to suspend diplomatic relations with the EU and withdraw diplomatic personnel to our country.”

He is confident that this move will frighten European officials. “For embassies are evacuated before very definite events,” the former president wrote.

The day before , the European Commission explained on its website the rules for applying existing sanctions (no new documents were adopted). According to these clarifications, Russians cannot import personal belongings and vehicles subject to sanctions into EU countries . The ban also applies to tourist trips.

Before this, it was unclear whether the previously imposed sanctions applied specifically to personal belongings. Of these items, over 160 items are subject to restrictive measures. Among them are cosmetics, shower products, toothpastes, soaps, women's suits and dresses with skirts, shoes, smartphones, cameras and other things.

Russian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that they consider Western sanctions illegal. Acting head of the Federal Customs Service Ruslan Davydov called the ban for Russians on the import of personal belongings “complete lawlessness.” And the head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, Andrei Klishas, said that “only reciprocal restrictions on EU citizens can influence the enraged European bureaucrats and influence the abolition of such discriminatory rules.”
