The Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, spoke in an interview with the RBC TV channel about plans to revive the Volga and Pobeda car brands that existed in Soviet times.

“Colleagues have plans to revive, for example, the Volga or Pobeda brand, or both,” he said.

When asked whether such cars would be produced in Nizhny Novgorod, Manturov said that the project could be implemented at different sites. However, he did not specify the possible timing of the start of production.

On May 16, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the resumption of production of cars under the Moskvich brand. They will be assembled on the basis of the former Moscow Renault plant, which was transferred to the balance of Moscow, he said. it was indicated that negotiations are underway with foreign automakers who might be interested in such a project.

Regarding the departure of Renault, Manturov indicated that the “collapse of logistics” was a likely trigger for such a decision. “Globally, the Renault company has to bear the burden of maintaining AvtoVAZ and Avtoframos for a long-term period, unlike other manufacturers who have announced that they will ensure the payment of salaries to employees of these enterprises until the end of the year,” he said. .
