CANADA has imposed new sanctions against Russia, banning the import into the country and the supply of luxury goods from it, the country's Foreign Ministry said. Ottawa also expanded the sanctions list by adding 14 Russians to it.

“Canada bans the EXPORT of luxury goods to Russia, including alcoholic beverages, tobacco, certain textiles and sportswear, shoes, luxury clothing and accessories, jewelry, tableware and art,” the statement said. From Russia it is forbidden to import alcoholic beverages, seafood, fish and diamonds.

According to Canadian authorities, these are goods worth $75.7 million. Ottawa said it also bans the export of goods that "may be used in the manufacture of weapons by Russia."

The export to Russia of communication devices, including computers, mobile phones, modems, and printers, has been banned. As the Canadian authorities noted, the restrictions are being introduced in coordination with partners from the United States and Europe. The EU and the US banned the export of luxury goods to Russia back in March.
