Italian ports will stop accepting Russian ships from April 17

Italian ports will be closed to Russian ships from Sunday 17 April. The ban will also apply to ships that have changed flags after 24 February. This is reported by the newspaper Stampa with reference to the circular of the General Command of the Port Authority.

Earlier, the decision to close all EU ports for Russian ships was made by the EU authorities on April 8 as part of the fifth package of sanctions for a military special operation in Ukraine. The document agreed that the access of ships under the Russian flag to the ports should be blocked after April 16.

The decision does not apply to ships in distress and seeking asylum. In addition, ships carrying natural gas, oil , titanium, aluminium, copper, nickel, palladium, iron ore, nuclear fuel and coal, as well as drugs, food and agricultural products, including wheat and fertilizers, are not subject to restrictions. .

In addition to the EU, CANADA has taken the same decision. Also, the British authorities did not rule out a ban on accepting ships under the Russian flag.
