Russian businessman, son of the former Prosecutor General Igor Chaika and HEAD of the opposition Moldovan Shor party Ilan Shor commented on the decision of the European Union to impose sanctions against them for destabilizing Moldova.

Shor, in a conversation with RBC, said that he “is not afraid of sanctions,” because he is guided only by the interests of Moldovan citizens. He considers the decision of the EU to impose restrictions on him as the revenge of Brussels for the demands of the politician to stop the integration of Moldova into the European Union.

“The European Union is scared, because I am telling the truth. Integration into the European Union today has already brought home gas prices of 30 lei (€1.7), crazy electricity prices, crazy inflation. In fact, today the desire to join the European Union has impoverished the citizens of the Republic of Moldova – it has drained money from people’s pockets,” Shor said.

Chaika, in a commentary posted on the TELEGRAM channel of the head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Yevgeny Primakov, said that he "doesn't care deeply about the petty attempts of degenerates from the EU" who imposed "their ridiculous sanctions" on him. The businessman stressed that, together with his team, he has been implementing numerous humanitarian and educational projects in Moldova for several years. “We made the lives of many citizens of Moldova a little better, and saved many lives,” he said, promising to continue helping the “fraternal Moldovan people.”

Chaika called the authorities of Moldova “a bunch of Russophobes” who “temporarily seized power” in the republic and “are trying to erase the common pages of history from the memory of the fraternal Moldovan people for RUSSIA.”

The European Union explained the imposition of sanctions against Chaika by the fact that he "played the role of the Russian "purse", directing money to the assets of the FSB in the Republic of Moldova in order to put the country under the control of the Kremlin." Shor, who has been living in Israel since 2019 (in Moldova he faces 15 years in prison in the case of withdrawing $1 billion from three banks), was accused in Brussels of illegally financing political parties and inciting violence. After the imposition of sanctions, both are banned from entering the EU, and their assets are frozen.
