The United States will not impose sanctions on Russia's oil and gas industry, as they could lead to higher energy prices, US State Department senior energy security adviser Amos Hochstein told BLOOMBERG TV.

“If we target the oil and gas sector for Putin, and in this case the Russian energy establishment, then prices will jump. Perhaps he (Putin. -) would sell only half of his products, but at a double price, ”he said.

At the same time, the EU, on the contrary, stated that they planned to impose sanctions against the oil industry of the Russian economy. “We are targeting the energy sector, a key area of ​​the economy that is especially beneficial for the Russian state,” said the HEAD of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. She noted that the sanctions would hit the oil sector, because because of them, "Russia will not be able to modernize its oil refineries."

Western countries are imposing sanctions against Russia against the backdrop of a special military operation launched by President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine and his recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.
