The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russian businessmen, including billionaire Roman Abramovich. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to the draft law.
According to the newspaper, the permanent representatives of the EU countries discussed the new list of 15 persons in Brussels. There were no objections against the listed persons. On March 14, they must finalize the measures and issue a law, the publication noted.
The European Union plans to include Abramovich in the sanctions list due to close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Among the reasons is also the fact that he "is a significant source of income" for the Russian government. In addition to him, the bill lists three other Russian oligarchs, seven businessmen who are linked to the Kremlin, and four more with a disinformation campaign, the FT said.
