Members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Ukraine calling for sanctions against RUSSIA. This was reported in the press service of the European Parliament.
548 deputies voted for the resolution, 69 voted against, 54 abstained.
“The EU must be ready to issue a stern warning to Russia that military action against Ukraine will not only be unacceptable, but will also have a high economic and political cost. EU countries must remain ready to immediately agree on severe economic and financial sanctions against the Russian government to address immediate threats, rather than waiting for the next invasion before taking action.
The text of the resolution also clarifies that the new package of sanctions should include Russian officers who are expected to be involved in planning the invasion of Ukraine, as well as the inner circle of the Russian president. Sanctions , according to MEPs, should include the freezing of financial and physical assets in the EU, a ban on travel to Europe, the exclusion of Russia from the SWIFT payment system.
In addition, the authors of the resolution called for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to be put into operation, regardless of whether it complies with the provisions of the EU Gas Directive.
