The EU will ban coal imports from Russia as part of the fifth round of sanctions. This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, voicing proposals for restrictions.
“Firstly, we will impose a ban on the import of coal from Russia in the amount of €4 billion a year. This will deprive Russia of another important source of income,” she said.
In total, the new package includes six main areas, in addition to the ban on the import of coal, it includes:
a ban on transactions with four Russian banks, including VTB; a ban on Russian ships entering the ports of the European Union (exceptions will be the transportation of agricultural products and food products, as well as energy carriers) and the activities of Russian and Belarusian motor transport companies; prohibition of EXPORT to Russia of quantum computers, semiconductors, transport equipment; a ban on imports from Russia of wood, cement, seafood, alcoholic beverages; prohibition for Russian companies to participate in public procurement in the EU member states.In addition, the HEAD of the EC noted, the European Union will expand the black lists of Russians, specific individuals will be named later.
