EU and G7 warn of readiness to tighten sanctions against Russia

The leaders of the EU member states expressed their readiness to tighten sanctions against Moscow and MINSK because of the situation in Ukraine.

“We are determined to further increase our pressure on RUSSIA and Belarus. We have imposed serious sanctions and remain ready to quickly accept new ones,” they said in a statement.

The countries of the Group of Seven (G7: Great Britain, Germany, Italy, CANADA, France, Japan and the usa ) are ready for the same step, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said.

The European Union has adopted several packages of restrictive measures against Russia. The first was introduced after Moscow recognized the independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics: then 351 State Duma deputies and 27 more individuals and legal entities were on the list. Then, companies in the defense, financial and space industries fell under the restrictions. In addition, Brussels froze the assets of representatives of the Russian authorities.
