The European Union will tighten sanctions against RUSSIA due to the military operation in Ukraine and will strengthen support for Kiev in defense matters. This was announced on Twitter by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock.

The need to strengthen restrictive measures against Russia was stated by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of Germany, Robert Habek: “I consider it expedient to tighten sanctions. We are preparing for this with our partners in the EU.”

Finance Minister Christian Lindner said that Berlin will start discussing with partners the issue of tightening sanctions from Monday, April 4.

European officials attribute this decision to reports from the Ukrainian authorities about the events in the city of Bucha. A published video from the city of Bucha (from which Russian troops had previously withdrawn), according to Ukrainian authorities and Western media, shows civilian casualties.
