“Sanctions against [Vladimir] Putin should have been introduced in 2014, and we only introduced them in 2022. it would be serious, but we did nothing. What sanctions did we impose then? They launched this diplomatic imitation called the "Norman process" and achieved nothing. And Putin concluded that the West would not stop him. That was the mistake,” Johnson said.

According to the former prime minister, everyone has learned this "fundamental lesson".

“There were countries that participated in the Normandy process, in the MINSK agreements. All this was going nowhere. The biggest lesson people have learned is that we failed in 2014, we didn’t do what we were supposed to do,” Johnson explained.
