Britain imposed sanctions against the CEO of ANO "Eurasia" Nelly Parutenko

She is linked to Moldovan businessman and politician Ilan Shor, who was accused of bribing foreign government officials. In 2024 , Parutenko was also sanctioned by the EU and the US Nelly Parutenko

The UK has imposed sanctions against the Russian autonomous non-profit organization (ANO) Eurasia and its HEAD Nelli Parutenko. The data is provided on the country's government website.

The UK's Office of Financial Sanctions Enforcement (OFSI) believes Parutenko is acting on behalf of businessman and founder of the banned Moldovan Shor party Ilan Shor, who has been accused of bribing foreign public officials.

Shor is under EU sanctions, and in Brussels the businessman was charged with illegal financing of political parties and incitement to violence. “His [Shor’s] actions aimed at undermining democracy in the Republic of Moldova include providing illegal funding to support pro-Kremlin political activities in the Republic,” the Official Journal of the European Union, released in May 2023, said.

In Moldova, the businessman was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison in April 2023 for embezzling approximately $1 billion from three Moldovan banks: Banca de Economii, Unibank and Banca Sociala. In recent years, Shor lived in Israel; in May 2024, he announced that he had received Russian citizenship.

Parutenko was also sanctioned by the EU in October 2024. The EU then stated that the goal of Eurasia was to advance Russian interests in former Soviet republics, including Moldova. According to the EU, the organization also serves as a channel for financing from the Russian bank and Ilan Shor to citizens and infrastructure projects in the autonomous territorial entity of Moldova, Gagauzia. "Thus, Nelly Parutenko, acting through Eurasia, is attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, thereby threatening the sovereignty, independence and democracy of the Republic of Moldova," the Official Journal of the European Union says.

A month earlier, in September 2024, the United States also introduced sanctions against Parutenko and Eurasia.

"Eurasia" is an autonomous non-profit organization for the promotion of international cooperation. Its goal is "strengthening mutually beneficial integration processes in the post-Soviet space while preserving the national identity of peoples." The projects of the ANO include "Get to Know Russia", "Get to Know Eurasia", "Eurasia Ambassadors", "Eurasia-Film Festival", "Eurasia Internships" and others.
