Bloomberg learns about China tightening labeling rules for Taiwan

According to the agency, labeling rules for Taiwanese imports banning the spelling "Republic of China" were first announced in 2015.however, prior to Pelosi's visit, enforcement was not strictly enforced.

Chinese authorities plan to tighten labeling rules for Taiwanese products in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, BLOOMBERG reported, citing informed sources.

Products labeled as made in the "Republic of China" (that's what Taiwan officially calls itself) will not be allowed into the mainland Chinese market, agency sources said. Bloomberg explains that if the labeling rules on the goods are not followed, the PRC customs has the right to confiscate such products.

A spokesman for the Taiwan Ministry of Economy told the agency that there has indeed been an increase in complaints from Taiwanese companies over the past week due to labeling problems when trying to import products into the PRC, but there have been no cases of confiscation so far.

In response to the unannounced visit, China launched large-scale military exercises off Taiwan. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called Pelosi's visit "an outrageous deliberate provocation," which was preplanned by the American side.
