In the U.S., senior officials are pushing again for sanctions against billionaire Roman Abramovich after his recent trip to Kyiv to resume talks failed to materialize, Bloomberg reported, citing two sources.
During his last trip to Kyiv, Abramovich did not meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but instead spoke with his chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, three people with knowledge of the meeting told the agency.
According to Bloomberg, against this background, senior White House officials began to push for the imposition of sanctions, which were developed a few weeks ago.
RBC sent a request to a representative of Roman Abramovich.

Putin called the results of the negotiations a condition for a meeting with Zelensky Politics
On March 31, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the HEAD of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the businessman is an "extremely effective" mediator during the negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.
“He partially moderates the process from the point of view, so that there is no misunderstanding “at the entrance”. That is, when a side declares something, and the other side misunderstood it, from the point of view of the logistics of the negotiation process," Podolyak explained.
The Kremlin pointed out that the businessman is not an official member of the Russian delegation, but he was "involved in ensuring certain contacts" between the parties.
Abramovich was noticed on March 29 at the Dolmabahce Palace right before the start of negotiations between delegations in Istanbul. He talked with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, next to them was Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. The latter noted that the businessman "is making sincere efforts" to help resolve the situation in Ukraine.

On April 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are progressing "slowly, slowly." Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia had lost confidence in the Ukrainian negotiators, as Kyiv was changing its position and trying to "drag out the negotiation process."
Podolyak, in turn, said that the process became more complicated after the events in Bucha, Mariupol, Volnovakha and the Kyiv region. “The emotional background in which the negotiations are taking place today gives grounds for a slightly different look at the situation as a whole,” he said.
