The European Union, as part of a new sanctions package against Belarus, will propose to introduce restrictions against 71 people and seven organizations, BLOOMBERG reports citing sources. The measures will be related to the forced landing of a Ryanair passenger plane in Minsk and the subsequent arrest of Roman Protasevich, ex-editor-in-chief of the Nexta TELEGRAM channel.
According to the agency, the sanctions will include a judge and prosecutors who were involved in sentencing protesters, parliamentarians, government officials and law enforcement officials, as well as heads of businesses close to the authorities. The list may also include companies and exporters operating in various industries, which, according to Brussels, support the government of President ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO.
Those who fall under the sanctions will be banned from entering the EU, and their assets will be frozen. it is not clear when the restrictive measures will be taken.
As the agency notes, it is not yet known which sectors will be affected by economic sanctions. Earlier, Brussels did not rule out that the restrictions would affect the supply of potash fertilizers to the EU countries.
