Blinken said sanctions against Venezuela "are not permanent"

The United States did not impose sanctions against Venezuela forever and can lift them if the country's authorities "do the right thing". This was announced at a press conference after the summit of the Americas by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

“Sanctions are not something permanent. If we see changes, sanctions can be lifted. There is no purpose to keep them indefinitely. The goal is to encourage countries, regimes to do the right thing, especially when it comes to restoring democracy,” the Secretary of State said.

He added that, "according to the latest data", the authorities and the opposition of Venezuela have the intention to return to the negotiations in the capital of Mexico and the United States supports such plans.

The shipment of Venezuelan crude oil will be Eni's first since US approval allowing the resumption of the oil-for-debt deal, the agency writes.
