The AT.1 coronavirus variant identified in RUSSIA at the beginning of 2021 does not pose a danger on a global scale, therefore it is excluded from the list of strains for which the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) conducts epidemic surveillance. This was reported to TASS at the WHO headquarters in Geneva. The organization explained that they maintain several lists of strains of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that caused the pandemic.
The list of strains of concern includes Alpha (found in the UK), Beta (South Africa), Gamma (Brazil) and Delta (India). Four more strains, also called Greek letters, are on the list of interest.
The list for further monitoring, which since June 9 included AT.1 identified in Russia, as of July 28, included 16 variants of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. However, now AT.1 has been excluded from this list.
