The record increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS in RUSSIA was due to the neglect of social distancing and personal protection measures, low vaccination rates and the emergence of the Indian strain of infection in the country. This was stated by the HEAD of the laboratory of biotechnology and virology of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of NSU Sergey Netesov in an interview with Lente.ru.
“A year ago, in the spring, everyone was scared, alert and used masks. And in reality, this led to the fact that the epidemic subsided, ”said Netesov.
In his opinion, the residents of Moscow have become worse to comply with restrictive measures in view of their mitigation. The virologist noted that vaccination at the level of 12-13% of the total population is not enough to form herd immunity.
“And the third is that the Indian version of SARS-CoV-2 got into Russia, which spreads much faster and more efficiently,” Netesov said.
He added that on average, the original strain of the coronavirus infected an average of two to three people, the Indian strain about five to six. In terms of the number of daily cases of coronavirus, the third wave of the pandemic is similar to the one that was in winter. A large number of people have suffered the infection, there is a small group of those who have been vaccinated.
According to the operational headquarters, on the morning of June 27, 46.3 thousand cases of coronavirus were registered in the region, including 3.1 thousand children. 41.3 thousand patients have fully recovered. During the day, 162 cases were detected in the Novosibirsk region.
