The assistant to the HEAD of WHO said that in reality 6-8 million people could die from CORONAVIRUS

The actual number of deaths from coronavirus in the world may be several times higher than official statistics. This was stated by Assistant DIRECTOR General of the World HEALTH Organization (WHO) for data and analytics Samira Asma.

She noted that, according to WHO estimates, covid-19 caused at least 3 million deaths last year, which is 1.2 million more than official statistics from January 30 to December 31, 2020.

“The real number could even be two to three times higher,” Asma said. She added that the WHO is committed to reporting the real impact of the pandemic and is working with different countries to create common standards for reporting deaths and causes of deaths.

During an audio briefing on Twitter, Asma noted that given these estimates, the current official coronavirus death toll of 3.4 million could be significantly revised. “Based on the fact that the data may be two to three times higher than the official figures of 3.4 million deaths, the real death rate could be 6–8 million people,” the WHO assistant director general explained.
