The Turkish Grand Prix was part of the Formula 1 calendar from 2005 to 2011 and temporarily returned in 2020 and 2021 due to the CORONAVIRUS pandemic.

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said the country's authorities hope to return Formula 1 racing to Istanbul in 2026, NTV reports.

A tender for the management of the Istanbul race track will be held in April.

"We set a very important condition in the tender: bringing Formula 1 to Istanbul by 2026. The necessary investments have already been made. Very ambitious companies are interested in participating in the tender. The winner will be the one that guarantees the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Turkey starting in 2026. It's crucial that such events are held in Istanbul," Ersoy said.

The Turkish Grand Prix was part of the Formula 1 calendar from 2005 to 2011.

The stage was then removed from the calendar for financial reasons, but due to major schedule changes due to the pandemicDue to covid-19, the race has temporarily returned to the schedule in 2020 and 2021.

Currently, eight Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar have contracts expiring in 2025.
