Scientists at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor (Rospotrebnadzor ) have developed the first test system in RUSSIA capable of detecting 25 different respiratory viruses simultaneously, the agency reported.
The new test diagnoses all significant pathogens of acute respiratory viral infections, COVID-19, enteroviruses, adenoviruses, rhinoviruses, metapneumovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, and bocavirus.
"The test system is highly accurate and allows doctors to quickly diagnose and prescribe treatment . All test components are manufactured in Russia, eliminating dependence on foreign supplies and making diagnostics accessible to the public," the agency said in a statement.
On August 23, Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) warned about the spread of a new strain of the coronavirus—SARS-CoV-2—XFG, also known as "stratus." According to Rospotrebnadzor HEAD Anna Popova, the new strain is more contagious than previous strains, but the disease is mild.
