In 30% of children who have been ill with CORONAVIRUS, damage to the heart, kidneys, endocrine glands, brain and gastrointestinal tract is possible. This was stated by Deputy DIRECTOR for Research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Alexander Gorelov, RIA Novosti reports.
“Although more often the disease in children is milder, nevertheless, in 30% of cases they may develop post-covid complications, in which the heart, kidneys, endocrine glands, brain, and gastrointestinal tract are affected,” Gorelov said. According to him, the highest risk of complications is likely in overweight children.
He noted that among children in general, adolescents aged 14-17 are most affected by covid-19 , as they are more mobile and socially active, while younger children are more disconnected, especially during summer holidays.

In May, Gorelov talked about how the coronavirus is developing in children in severe form. Among the symptoms, he called shortness of breath, fever for three days, and a rash, the appearance of which may indicate Kawasaki syndrome (inflammation of the blood vessels). He also noted a multi-inflammatory syndrome, as a result of which several body systems are affected at once, it can be detected using x-rays.
