The Foreign Ministry said they do not plan to close Russian embassies in Europe

RUSSIA does not intend to voluntarily close diplomatic missions in European countries, said Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, RIA Novosti reports.

“This is not in our tradition. Therefore, we believe that the work of diplomatic missions is important, ”he answered the question about such a possibility against the backdrop of the introduction of Western sanctions.

At the same time, Grushko stressed that Moscow did not start a "diplomatic war, a campaign of expulsions."

After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, dozens of European states, as well as Japan, announced the expulsion of Russian diplomats. The Russian side has already reacted to the steps of some of them by retaliatory expulsions of employees of diplomatic missions.

One of the latest was the expulsion of seven employees of the Danish embassy in Russia on 5 May. This was a response to the decision of Denmark to declare 15 employees of the Russian embassy persona non grata, as well as "the provision of military assistance by the Danish authorities to Kyiv."

The Kingdom decided to expel 15 Russian diplomats on 5 April. The country's foreign minister, Jeppe Kofod, said they were engaged in espionage. He stressed that Denmark wants to protect its security, and the decision was made following "a large number of other European countries."
