The Crimean State Council proposed to abandon the study of English in schools

“Why study what is not necessary if a person will never go to London?” - says the speaker of the State Council of the Republic Konstantinov. State Duma deputy Khinshtein objected to him,

English should be excluded from the school curriculum, instead it is better to study “your own languages,” said Vladimir Konstantinov, speaker of the State Council of Crimea.

“Languages ​​are a controversial issue for me, very controversial: why should we blindly follow the path of the English language? Why study something that is not necessary if a person will never go to London? Konstantinov said (TASS quote).

According to the deputy, a child, learning English, becomes a "hostage", because he will then want to know "what it is - England."

“Let's learn our languages, develop our languages! The British have been at war with us for a thousand years, and we continue to study them, spend money on teachers, waste time - and then there is not enough time for history, ”concluded Konstantinov.

The deputy added that he did not study English at school, but learned it later in two years. In his opinion, foreign languages ​​should be taught by those people who need it, and for this purpose courses in various languages ​​can be created.

“In this case, how do we differ from countries where the Russian language and Russian culture are canceled, Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky are banned? On the contrary, we need to take all the best that is in the world, without becoming like the cave barbarism of some “neighbors,” the deputy wrote in his TELEGRAM channel. He also called the Russian scientific linguistic school "one of the strongest" and called for its development and appreciation.

This is not the first time that proposals have been received from Crimea on language topics. In early April, the HEAD of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, proposed to clean up the Russian language and the educational process “from other people's meanings”, removing the “unjustifiably” used anglicisms. “Up to the ban on using English words in the names of domestic enterprises,” he said.
