A draft law has been submitted to the State Duma, according to which participants in the military operation in Ukraine will be recognized as combat veterans. The document was published in the database of the lower house of parliament.
“From February 24, 2022, it should be an indisputable basis for establishing the status of combat veterans and combat invalids, providing them and their family members with the support measures provided for by law,” the explanatory note says.

The draft law was sponsored by a group of senators and deputies from United RUSSIA, including Secretary of the General Council of the party Andrey Turchak, senators Viktor Bondarev, Alexander Karelin, Vladimir Kravchenko and deputies Andrey Kartapolov, Vladimir Shamanov, Dmitry Sablin and Andrey Krasov.
In Russia, combat veterans are now considered combatants in Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria.
