Scientists say three times the risk of contracting COVID-19 during pregnancy

Scientists conducted a study among residents of Siberia and the Far East, finding that the incidence of CORONAVIRUS in pregnant women is three times higher than in the rest.At the same time, 80% of women in labor had a mild course of the disease.

Pregnant women are three times more likely to become infected with covid-19 than everyone else. This conclusion was made by scientists from the Kemerovo State Medical University and the Chita State Medical Academy, TASS reports.

They conducted a study of the course of the disease in pregnant women who live in Siberia and the Far East. According to the HEAD of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Kemerovo University, the chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of HEALTH of RUSSIA in obstetrics and gynecology in the Siberian Federal District (SFD) Natalya Artymuk, the incidence of the population of the Far Eastern and Siberian Federal Districts in 2020 amounted to 1960 cases per 100 thousand people, while the incidence in pregnant women is three times higher than this indicator - 5933 cases per 100 thousand people.

The study says that 80% of pregnant women who fell ill had a mild and asymptomatic course of the disease, and mortality was 505 cases per 100 thousand people, or 0.14%.

Scientists noted that sick women in labor were more likely to be treated in intensive care and anesthesia departments (3.5%) than the general population (2.2%). At the same time, artificial lung ventilation devices were used much less frequently for the treatment of pregnant women.
