The St. Petersburg COURT allowed blogger Yuri Khovansky, accused of justifying terrorism, to use the Internet and leave his home at any time. This information was confirmed to RBC in the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.
“On April 6, the Kuibyshevsky District Court ruled to extend the measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions. Some of the bans have been removed from Yuri: he is now allowed to use the Internet and leave the house not only during the day, but also at night, ”lawyer Alexander Peredruk told TASS. However, other prohibitions remained in force - on communicating with the press and witnesses in the case, the lawyer specified.
Khovansky, whose YouTube channel has more than 4.4 million subscribers, was detained in June 2021. He was accused of justifying terrorism because of a song about a terrorist attack at the Theater Center on Dubrovka in 2002.
As RBC learned, three people testified against the blogger who accidentally heard this song from the phones of strangers. Two of them may have previously worked as operatives. The testimonies of witnesses have half the identical text.
Khovansky pleaded guilty to performing the song and partly to justifying terrorism. Under the article on the public justification of terrorism (205.2 of the Criminal Code), he faces up to seven years in prison. The blogger was added to the list of extremists and terrorists.
