The US State Department left RUSSIA on the list of countries accused of human trafficking due to "active complicity" in the forced exploitation of North Korean workers.
“The Russian government does not fully meet the minimum standards for the eradication of human trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so, even given the impact of the covid-19 pandemic,” the 2021 report says.
The US State Department noted that Russia has taken some steps to combat human trafficking, including facilitating the return of Russian children from Iraq and Syria.

Nevertheless, Washington believes that Moscow actively promotes the forced labor of North Korean workers. The Russian government has not screened North Korean workers for signs of human trafficking and has not identified North Korean victims of human trafficking, despite reports of North Korean labor camps in Russia, the report said.
In addition to Russia, the list of countries accused of human trafficking includes CHINA , Afghanistan, Myanmar, Cuba, Eritrea, North Korea, Iran, South Sudan, Turkmenistan and Syria. The list for 2021 did not include Belarus, which was on the list in 2020.
Moreover, the US State Department has included Turkey in the list of countries involved in the use of children as soldiers. The American department pointed out that Ankara uses minors in battles in Libya and Syria.
