Sobyanin spoke about the raging epidemic of COVID-19 in Moscow

In Moscow, the situation with the CORONAVIRUS infection is developing in such a way that the city is re-experiencing the epidemic, now it is raging. The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, spoke about this in an interview with Vesti on Saturday.

He explained that Moscow had previously managed to defeat the Wuhan variant of the coronavirus, which now affects no more than 5% of Muscovites. Moreover, 60% of the capital's residents have either been ill or vaccinated and they have antibodies that would stop the epidemic, the mayor added.

“And if there hadn’t been a new mutation, then we would have already left the pandemic, there would be no problems. I think that the incidence would have gone almost to zero, ”said Sobyanin. He also said that either rapid large-scale vaccination or lockdown could  stop the spread of covid-19 .

According to him, if earlier the incubation period was about two weeks, now the disease manifests itself in a period of up to five days. Moreover, the amount of antibodies needed to protect against the Indian strain should be twice that of the Wuhan strain.

Earlier, on June 17, Sobyanin said that the situation with the incidence of coronavirus in Moscow "is rapidly deteriorating." He called the dynamics of the incidence “quite unexpected”, since 60% of Muscovites have already been ill or have been vaccinated.

In early June, against the backdrop of a worsening epidemic situation in the capital, the mayor of Moscow introduced new restrictions. Thus, from June 13 to June 20, catering establishments are prohibited from working at night (from 23:00 to 6:00) (with the exception of delivery and takeaway services), zoos, food courts and children's playrooms should be closed to the public.

Later, the mayor said that Moscow "reached last year's peaks" in incidence, and described the development of the situation as dramatic. The restrictions have been extended.
