One in ten people who recover from COVID-19 experience symptoms of the disease within six months, according to a study by Singapore's National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), reports The Strait Times.
Most often, those who have had a CORONAVIRUS persist cough and shortness of breath. In more rare cases, fatigue, dizziness and insomnia have been observed. In addition, scientists have found that people who have recovered have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
So far, scientists cannot say exactly which mechanisms affect the long-term persistence of symptoms after recovery.
The NCID study began in January 2020, shortly after the first case was identified in Singapore. Patients began to be observed during the first week of illness and were followed up for an average of six months.
