Roskomnadzor will draw up an administrative offense report against the Internet portal Wikipedia for failure to remove false information, according to which the site owner faces a fine of up to 4 million rubles, the press service of the department reports.

The protocol will be drawn up under Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“Violation of the procedure for restricting access to information, information resources, access to which is subject to restriction in accordance with the legislation of Russia”).

“Roskomnadzor sent a notice to the administration of the Internet resource to immediately remove inaccurate information on the subject of a special military operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, aimed at misinforming Russian users,” the message says.

RKN threatened Wikipedia with blocking because of an article about a military operation Politics

In early March, Roskomnadzor threatened Wikipedia with blocking for the article "Russia's Invasion of Ukraine (2022)". The department’s notice noted that the material contains information “about numerous casualties among the military personnel of the Russian Federation, as well as the civilian population of Ukraine, including children,” as well as about “the need to withdraw funds from accounts in banks of the Russian Federation in connection with sanctions.”
