President Vladimir Putin in a TELEGRAM to Angela Merkel declared her high authority in Europe and in the world and promised to continue friendly communication with her. The text of the telegram was published on the Kremlin website. Vladimir Putin addresses Merkel as "you".

“We were constantly in contact and tried to find ways out of even the most difficult situations. During the years of your tenure at the HEAD of the German government, you have rightfully earned a high prestige in Europe and throughout the world. I am sure that your rich experience as a statesman and politician will always be in demand. And, of course, we will continue our friendly communication,” it says.

On December 8, the chancellor was replaced in Germany: the German parliament approved Olaf Scholz for this position. Merkel, who left this post, headed the country's government for 16 years.

Almost simultaneously with the farewell telegram to Merkel, Putin sent congratulations to the new Chancellor Olaf Scholz. “Relations between RUSSIA and Germany are traditionally of great importance not only for the peoples of our countries, but for the whole of Europe. I look forward to establishing a constructive dialogue with you and joint work on topical issues on the bilateral and international agenda,” the congratulatory telegram reads.
