The Omicron variant of the CORONAVIRUS differs from others in its rapid course and significantly fewer cases of pneumonia, Denis Protsenko, chief physician of hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka, said in an interview with Tina Kandelaki on RTVI.
“If you look at the dynamics that the operational headquarters gives in Moscow, today another record is more than 25,000. And on the one hand, its rapid course and a smaller, much smaller number of lung tissue lesions, fewer pneumonias in the end is good news,” said Protsenko, answering the question whether there is cause for alarm due to the fact that the disease is progressing faster.
According to the head physician, the current wave, which is characterized by an increase in temperature to 39 degrees for two to three days and weakness, may be accompanied by an exacerbation of diseases, decompensation in people at risk (citizens over 60 years old, with morbid obesity, pathologies).

“Therefore, despite the fact that this week there has been such an avalanche-like increase in cases, we do not see an avalanche-like increase in hospitalizations, although, of course, the burden on the healthcare system, on its outpatient part, has increased dramatically,” Protsenko said.
