The Omicron strain of CORONAVIRUS has practically conquered Moscow and St. Petersburg - about 80% of cases of covid-19 infection in these cities are caused by this strain, Anna Popova, HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Today we see that already about 80% of all identified, sequenced viruses, coronaviruses are “omicron”. Here he has practically already conquered his territory, ”Popova noted.

She recalled that "omicron" is the most contagious of all known variants of coronavirus and is spreading very quickly in large cities.

She added that at the same time, 20% of cases of COVID-19 still occur in the "delta", in which the disease is severe. This strain affects people with poor HEALTH and with concomitant diseases, recalled the head of Rospotrebnadzor.
