Italian police say they have prevented cyberattacks on Eurovision

According to the authorities, the pro-Russian hacker group Killnet tried to hack into the competition's computer systems. A few days earlier, she had claimed responsibility for attacks on Italian government offices.

Italian authorities prevented cyber attacks on Eurovision 2022, writes Rai, citing police documents. Hackers attempted to break into the competition's computer systems during the opening ceremony in Turin on 10 May and during the voting and speeches in the final on 14 May.

According to law enforcement agencies, the hacking attempt was made by the Killnet group, which the authorities call pro-Russian, and its "daughter" Legion. Several DDoS attacks were being prepared, but specialists from the specialized police unit did not allow them, the publication reports.

On May 12, the websites of the Ministry of Defense, the Senate and other departments of Italy were subjected to a cyber attack. According to ANSA, Killnet claimed responsibility for the hacks.

The first and second semi-finals of Eurovision were held in Turin on 10 and 12 May. The final took place on the 14th. The winner was the Ukrainian rap-folk group Kalush Orchestra, who performed the song Stefania. The jury rated the performance at 192 points, the team received another 439 from the audience - in total the group had 631 points.

The second place was taken by Great Britain (466 points), the third - by Spain (459).

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, after the victory of the Kalush Orchestra, promised that the authorities would do everything to ensure that one day Eurovision was held in "free and peaceful" Mariupol.
