Since the beginning of the pandemic, five children with CORONAVIRUS infection have died at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University (SPbSPMU). This was announced to journalists by the chief neonatologist of the Russian Ministry of HEALTH, the rector of St. Petersburg State Medical University Dmitry Ivanov. In addition, since April 2020, one child with covid-19 has  died in the Filatov City Children's Hospital, the St. Petersburg Health Committee added.

As Dmitry Ivanov clarified, children can be ill with coronavirus “very seriously”. Children with severe pathologies are more severe than COVID-19. “We accept the most difficult group of children - these are children who, in addition to covid, also suffer from severe comorbidities. These are tumors, leukemia, this is an endocrine pathology, children who need surgical treatment, ”said Ivanov (quoted by Interfax).

According to the St. Petersburg Health Committee, in October (compared to September), the number of hospitalizations of children with acute respiratory viral infections increased by almost a quarter, and those diagnosed with COVID-19 increased by more than 1.5 times. As the press service of the committee reported, in October, the children's hospital No. 5 named after. N.F. Filatov, 2,476 children with acute respiratory viral infections were delivered, of which 330 were diagnosed with COVID-19. In September, 2,055 children were taken to the infectious diseases emergency department of the hospital, 206 of them with coronavirus.

The fact that the number of children with coronavirus in the fourth wave has increased was reported at the end of October by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also spoke about the increase in child mortality from COVID-19. According to him, the infection is especially dangerous for children with chronic diseases.

RUSSIA is now undergoing clinical trials of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. The first stage of the study showed that the drug forms a good cellular immunity, the press service of the Moscow City Hall reported.
