The mandatory wearing of masks in Buryatia was canceled on June 1, but from August 16, the authorities plan to return it amid an increase in the number of cases of covid-19

Buryatia is the first of the regions to return the mandatory mask regime in public places after its abolition. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the regional operational headquarters, Vesti Buryatia reports.

Deputy HEAD of the republican Rospotrebnadzor Elena Kuzmina confirmed this information, RIA Novosti reports. Wearing masks will be mandatory in public places and on transport.

The press service of the head of the republic told the agency that a corresponding decree would be published on Tuesday, after which the regime would begin to operate.

Quarantine easing began in Buryatia at the end of March. Masks were canceled in most places, but they remained mandatory when visiting bus stations, airports, medical organizations, children's educational, cultural, entertainment, sports and other institutions. These restrictions were in effect until May 31, and from June 1, the mask regime in the republic ceased to operate completely.

Since the end of July, an increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS has begun in the region. If in June less than 20 cases were detected here per day, then from July 29 the figure first exceeded 50, then 80, and then crossed the mark of 100 patients per day. On August 15, 201 infected people were registered in Buryatia.

The incidence of COVID-19 is growing in the country as a whole. Compared with the July figures (diagnosed cases per day), the August ones increased by about 8–10 times (from 2.5–3 thousand to 23–25 thousand).

Against this background, many regions have begun to partially return restrictions and take preventive measures. For example, in the Tula region on August 1, a mandatory mask regime was introduced in healthcare facilities, and it was also forbidden to visit patients in hospitals. As TASS reported at the end of July, citing data from regional administrations, in medical institutions in every fourth region there is a mandatory wearing of masks. In early August, Rospotrebnadzor recommended that citizens from vulnerable categories wear masks in public places and public transport.

Kalmykia has returned mandatory vaccination for vulnerable categories of citizens, including people over 60 and HEALTH workers. In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the number of beds for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 has been increased.
