The authorities of the Novgorod region, which was the first among the regions of RUSSIA to extend the period of non-working days, also decided to tighten restrictions due to the continued increase in the number of people infected with CORONAVIRUS and the insufficiently responsible attitude of business to the measures introduced. This was stated by Governor Andrey Nikitin in the ChEZ program on the RBC TV channel.

“Unfortunately, the incidence statistics have not yet gone down. On the other hand, we see that quite a lot of violations follow the requirements that we have. We conduct constant checks, and, unfortunately, not all businesses comply with these requirements. If it is not possible to overcome the situation with the help of a responsible attitude, we will probably have to live for one week in a situation of such serious restrictions,” he said.

Nikitin also explained why he decided to extend the non-working days. He recalled that more than 280 people infected with coronavirus were detected in the Novgorod region over the past day, and for a “small region, this is a lot.”

“That's a lot, and we don't have many free beds left - almost 13%. A week is not enough, so we decided to take advantage of this [the opportunity to introduce non-working days] to the maximum,” the governor said.
