"Omicron" accounts for 42.8% of cases detected in the country, "delta" - 56,2%

The Omicron strain of CORONAVIRUS has been recorded in 55 regions of RUSSIA, the operational headquarters for combating the spread of infection said. Among the identified cases of covid-19, the new variant is 42.8%.

The delta strain still prevails throughout the country: it was detected in 56.2% of cases.

Earlier, the operational headquarters reported that 38,850 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Russia per day, 684 people died. The total number of infected people was 10.9 million, 9.9 million people recovered, more than 323 thousand people died.

The record for the number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic was recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg: here, 11,557 and 4,753 people were diagnosed with coronavirus per day, respectively.

On January 18, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced that the omicron strain of coronavirus already dominates in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg .
