The lockdown will last three days throughout the country and seven days in Auckland, where the infected person lives, and Coromandel, where he visited over the weekend. The RNZ reports that this is a 58-year-old man, who is on the waiting list for a vaccination, but has not yet received it. After he tested positive for CORONAVIRUS, authorities identified several contacts who also contracted COVID-19. As a result, the number of carriers of the virus in the country rose to five. All of them are carriers of the delta strain.

The country announced the most stringent, fourth, level of restrictions. Under it, people can leave their homes only in case of emergency. “The Delta strain has changed the game and we are responding to it,” New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said during a press conference (quoted by CNN). “The best thing we can do to get through this as quickly as possible is to do our best.”
